Historic Bath State Historic Site is at 207 Carteret St. The oldest incorporated town in North Carolina, Bath was chartered in 1705. It was the colony's first official port of entry. When he was not plundering in the Caribbean, Blackbeard was a resident. Tickets for guided tours of the Bonner House and Palmer-Marsh House can be purchased at the visitor center. The Van Der Veer House, with historical exhibits, can be explored on a self-guiding tour. A 15-minute video about Bath's history is shown every 15 minutes throughout the day. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
Site and Van Der Veer House free. Bonner and Palmer-Marsh houses tour $2; $1 (students with ID).
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 9-5, Sun. 1-5; tours are given on the hour. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Closed state holidays.
