North Carolina Maritime Museum, 315 Front St., depicts the state's maritime and coastal natural history. Exhibits include artifacts from Blackbeard's flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge; ship models; a sperm whale skeleton and heart; and displays about the U.S. Life Saving Service, the seafood industry and boatbuilding. Field trips to coastal habitats are offered year-round for tidal flat and salt marsh exploration. Lectures and educational programs and trips are offered; check the museum schedule for information. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Free. Reservations are required for activities.
Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9-5, Sat. 10-5, Sun. 1-5. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
