AAA Editor Notes
The Blowing Rock, 2 mi. s. on US 321 to 432 The Rock Rd., is a large rock formation 4,000 ft. above sea level that overhangs John's River Gorge. The area is said to be the only place where snow falls upward, and lightweight objects cast over the cliff will come back toward the thrower when rising air currents are present. Legend has it that a Chickasaw maiden lost her lover as he leapt from the rock; her prayers returned him with an upward gust of wind.
The observation tower affords a view of the gorge and the surrounding mountains.
