Carowinds Amusement and Water Park, 10 mi. s. on I-77 to exit 90, is on the North Carolina/South Carolina border at 14523 Carowinds Blvd. Covering 398 acres, the park features more than 50 rides, shows and attractions, including 13 roller coasters—Intimidator is one of the tallest, fastest and longest in the Southeast. Fury 325, the world's tallest and fastest giga-coaster, opened in 2016. Planet Snoopy is a 12-acre area for younger children.

Carolina Harbor is the largest water park in the Carolinas and has a giant wave pool, waterslides, the Australian-themed Boomerang Bay and a 2-acre family area with a 423-gallon tipping bucket. At Dinosaurs Alive! more than 50 roaring, moving, life-size dinosaurs and interactive attractions re-create prehistoric times on 5 wooded acres. Music concerts are presented in the Paladium Amphitheatre.

Kennel, stroller, wheelchair and locker rentals are available. Facilities include a first-aid station and campground. Pets are not permitted in the park.

Camping is permitted. Food is available.

$65; $44 (ages 62+ or under 48 inches tall); $34 (after 4 p.m.); free (ages 0-2). Season passes also are available.

Park opens daily at 10, late May to mid-Aug.; Sat.-Sun. at 10, late Mar.-late May and mid-Aug. to early Sept.; closing times vary but are either 8 or 10 p.m. The park is also open Sat.-Sun., early Sept.-late Oct.; phone for hours. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
