The vintage storefront in historic Fourth Ward was many things before it became this tavern in 1983, and the tavern stuck. Visit once and you'll see why: an abundance of neighborhood charm, a welcoming staff and a menu of simple, well-prepared chicken, pasta, burgers and catfish. Their tasty signature dish, obliquely named "What It Is," is blackened chicken in Cajun cream sauce over pasta. Other pasta options include a build-your-own creation and beef stroganoff. Sandwiches, burgers and salads are offered at lunch. Drop in for a bite after you've wandered the area admiring the restored homes and lovely park. Local craft beers are on tap, and although the wine list is slim, several reasonably priced by-the-glass options are featured.
