E.B. Jeffress Park is at Milepost 272, near Deep Gap, N.C. Named for a prominent North Carolina newspaper publisher and early Blue Ridge Parkway advocate, this roadside park features two trails. The Cascades Trail is a moderate 1-mile loop following Falls Creek through a forest thick with rhododendron and mountain laurel down to two overlooks from which you can watch the creek spill over the rocky sides of the mountain.
The half-mile Tomkins Knob Trail leads through woods to the site of Cool Springs Baptist Church, a historic location of outdoor church gatherings where mountain families once gathered to hear circuit-riding preachers. The picturesque Jesse Brown Cabin nearby, which is visible from the parkway, is where the itinerant preachers would spend the night. This easy trail ends at Tomkins Knob Overlook at Milepost 272.5.
Picnicking is permitted.
