AAA Inspector Notes
With extensive modern art in the public areas, this 1937 downtown high-rise mixes the past with the future for a unique, upscale stay. Rooms feature huge windows, luxe bedding and a minibar. Most bathrooms have oversize, black-tiled walk-in showers. A few suites feature private terraces. Throughout the hallways and in many rooms, the vintage terrazzo floors are on display. You must make a point of touring the second-floor lobby, upscale restaurant and state-of-the-art conference areas to take in the amazing art installations. When you encounter one of the giant fuchsia penguins, feel free to relocate it to make art of your own. The original bank vault is open for exploring; the massive door is a thing to behold. Word to the wise: if you happen to answer nature's call in the public restrooms on the mezzanine level, be sure to lock the cubicle door to darken the glass walls. If you can see out the glass, everyone can see in! Smoke free premises. 125 units. 17 stories, interior corridors.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and helped with any questions. They constantly asked if there was anything they could do for us. They did make our dogs feel welcomed & they were allowed anywhere in the hotel which was really nice.
Cons: I didn't appreciate the Pet Fee not being disclosed prior to booking the hotel as it was very expensive - $---- for a 2 night stay. There was construction going on across from the hotel thus it made getting to the entrance complicated.

Pros: Location. We attended the Duke TIP Grand Ceremony at Duke University and this hotel was only 5 minutes away. The museum was a plus. It is also within walking distance to a few good spots at Durham.
