Flat Rock Playhouse Mainstage is at 2661 Greenville Hwy.; from I-26 exit 53, take Upward/Highland Lake Rd. 2.4 mi. w. to SR 225, then 0.7 mi. n. The “State Theatre of North Carolina” began in 1961 with a few weeks of summer performances put on by the Vagabond Players. Today the venue is celebrated for its program of professional-caliber plays, musicals and productions for youth. The 506-seat Mainstage is housed in a barnlike structure with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. In 2011 a satellite venue, the 250-seat, theater-in-the-round Playhouse Downtown, opened in nearby Hendersonville at 125 S. Main St. Its “Music on the Rock” concert series is among its performance offerings. Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
Performance tickets $15-$40; $15-$30 (students ages 25 and under with ID). Reservations are recommended.
Hours: Performances are given Wed.-Thurs. at 2 and 7:30 p.m., Fri. at 8 p.m., Sat. at 2 and 8 p.m., Sun. at 2. Show schedules and times may vary; phone ahead to confirm.
