Pros: Good location for us...right on our travel route between Jefferson, nc& West Jefferson, nc. Close to (within walking distance, ifnecessary) grocery store (Food Lion), Family Dollar Store, Roses(discount store), steak house - and very near local hospital. Roomitself was clean upon check-in, but dirty towel & wash cloth left inbathroom...not sure why that happened. Staff was friendly andaccommodating. Property was quiet even though our room was close to thehighway (Hwy 421 Bus.). One thing my wife and I enjoyed was the chairsjust outside our door! In the rather cool, early fall air it was verynice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the "nip" in the air.We didn't feel like we were "trapped" in the room, watching tv the whole time. Nice to have the opportunity to sit outside.Liked the fact that they had a free breakfast, but it could 've useda little "help"...not much to it. Overall, we had an enjoyablestay, and would definitely stay here again when in the area.
Cons: 1. Not "pet friendly"; we had to leave our little dog at home with relatives. We have a miniature dachshund who travels with us almost everywhere we go...he is "crate trained" and when we leave the room during the day to go out, we take him with us, so there's no issue for the motel staff if they have to go in to clean, and no "barking dog" complaints because we don't leave him there alone. At night, he sleeps in his crate, and we take him outside to "do his business" frequently, so he never makes a mess in the room. At other motels, we've been happy to pay a refundable pet deposit (usually $20-$50) in case there should be an issue.
2. As mentioned in other comments, upon check-in we found the room itself to be clean and in good order - BUT - there was a dirty (used/wet) hand towel and wash cloth in the bathroom. Not sure how/why that was allowed to happen in an otherwise CLEAN room.
3. Only 1 roll of toilet paper in bathroom; ran out rather quickly. Had to walk down to office to get re-supply.
4. The FREE breakfast was seriously lacking, based on what we've experienced at other motels we've stayed at. Limited choices and small portions. One morning there were 2 coffee pots out on the warmers...BOTH DECAF - no regular. The next morning, there were also 2 coffee pots out...BOTH REGULAR - no decaf. They were out of cream or milk or whatever they normally had available, so we had to use powdered non-dairy creamer. Breakfast was just so-so...no muffins, fruit, yogurt, etc. was offered as part of the menu.
All in all, not the end of the world - BUT for over $100 per night (with tax, etc.)...total bill for 2 nights was $214 & change...I expected just a little higher quality in the areas mentioned above. Still, let me emphasize - these things were not serious enough to dissuade us from booking here again.
