AAA Inspector Notes
The oldest continually operating motel in the Outer Banks—open since the 1940s—offers many charming, nostalgic features, including a welcoming veranda with white columns stocked with rocking chairs. The knotty pine paneled lobby with a brick hearth feels more like the living room of an old cottage. Its wide walkways are lined with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the sea breezes. Room sizes vary; some are large, but others are cozy. YMCA passes are available. Smoke free premises. 54 units, some efficiencies. 2 stories (no elevator), interior/exterior corridors.

Pros: Nice location. Nice big beach. Pool was fine. The room was very, very small, but clean. Housekeepers were friendly and courteous. Good coffee available 24/7.
Cons: There is no elevator inside the building plus there are several steps just to get into the hotel. There is no automatic opener on the front door. Upon arrival, I really struggled to get my bag up the steps and into the hotel. Absolutely no one offered to help....even to just hold the heavy front door open so that I could pull my bag in. Front desk staff just stood there and watched me. Then they gave me a room on the second floor with even more steps to negotiate. Terribly disappointed with the service (or maybe just the lack of courtesy). Before I booked, I read so many reviews saying that the hotel staff "treated us just like family". I'd have to say that isn't how I would treat my family..... or a stranger for that matter. Surely not a good first impression.

Pros: The front desk lady was really helpful.Nothing else good to say
Cons: The breakfast was awful. The eggs were rubbery and precooked and put in a warmer. The room was musty smelling and the carpet was damp. The mattress was worn and sank to the box springs when sat on. Will never stay here again . Definitely won't recommend.
