Linville Gorge is a scenic chasm within Linville Falls Recreation Area at Milepost 316.4. Linville Gorge Wilderness, below the falls, is part of Pisgah National Forest and has been set aside for scientific and recreational use. Paths to the falls and to lookouts have been cut through great jungles of rhododendron. Wiseman's View observation point on the west overlooks the gorge.

Hunting and fishing are permitted in season. Permits are available at the district ranger's office off I-40, exit 90 in Nebo. Camping is available year-round; permits are required Sat.-Sun. and holidays, May-Oct. For further information contact the Grandfather Ranger District, 109 E. Lawing, Nebo, NC 28761.

Note: The wilderness area is reached only by trail or cross-country travel. A few steep trails require moderate to expert hiking skills.
