Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site is 5 mi. s.e. between SR 731 and SR 73. This 56-acre historic site was an important cultural, religious, economic and political center developed during the 11th century by a group archeologists refer to as the “Pee Dee Culture.” Reconstructed pre-Columbian buildings include a town house, earth lodge and mortuary. The visitor center offers interpretive exhibits and a DVD presentation.
