AAA Editor Notes
Joel Lane Museum House, 160 Saint Mary's St., is thought to be the oldest existing dwelling in the county. Built in 1769, it has been painstakingly restored and furnished with 18th-century antiques. Col. Joel Lane was a prominent statesman, and his house and tavern were the sites of many historically significant meetings. An 18th-century Colonial Revival garden and herb garden are on the grounds. Costumed docents offer guided tours that depart from the visitors center. Also on the site is a circa 1790 middle-class dwelling, a sharp contrast to the upper-class lifestyle enjoyed by Col. Lane.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
