North Carolina Museum of History, 5 E. Edenton St., includes exhibits focusing on 14,000 years of North Carolina history. The Story of North Carolina exhibit features artifacts and interactive multimedia presentations. Other exhibits highlight the state's military history, decorative arts and sports heroes. The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is within the museum. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Free. A fee may be charged for special exhibitions. Parking: Free parking is available on weekends in the Jones/Edenton Street lot.
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9-5, Sun. noon-5. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.
