Museum of the Waxhaws and Andrew Jackson Memorial is at 8215 Waxhaw Hwy. Named for its first inhabitants, the settlement was founded by the Scot-Irish about 1755. The museum's collection spans the years 1550-1900 and displays memorabilia and weapons from the Revolutionary and Civil wars, a working cotton gin, an exhibit dedicated to Andrew Jackson, Scot-Irish settlement artifacts and an 1814 Conestoga wagon. A short film detailing the history of the region also can be seen.
