Zebulon B. Vance Birthplace State Historic Site, 911 Reems Creek Rd., contains the reconstructed two-story log house in which North Carolina's Civil War-era governor was born on May 13, 1830. The site includes six farm buildings and a visitor center/museum. Living history events and guest speakers are scheduled in summer and fall. Pets on leash are allowed. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
