AAA Editor Notes

Statue of Sakakawea, on the State Capitol grounds at 600 E. Boulevard Ave., commemorates the “Bird Woman” of the Shoshone tribe. As the wife of Charbonneau and interpreter with the Lewis and Clark expedition, she was invaluable as a guide and in obtaining horses from the Shoshone for mountain crossings.
