Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge, 1 mi. w. on CR 1A, covers 19,544 acres of river valley. The refuge encompasses marshlands, lakes, prairie and woodlands. Deer, coyotes, waterfowl, shorebirds and songbirds, including the rare Baird's sparrow, seek refuge in the bottomlands. Tasker's Coulee Recreation Area is 3 miles southwest on CR 1A.
