Lostwood National Wildlife Refuge is 12.1 mi. w. on CR 5110/16, then 3.7 mi. s. on SR 8. Originally established to preserve the area's prairie heritage, the 26,900-acre refuge consists of native prairie grasslands and rolling hills interspersed with potholes, or wetlands. Hundreds of ponds frequented by waterfowl dot this pothole region. Sharp-tailed grouse can be photographed from a blind in early spring. The refuge can be explored via a 7-mile driving tour or a scenic 6-mile hiking trail.
