Lawrence House Museum is at 8660 Hwy. 215. This was the home of shipbuilder William Lawrence, who built what was said to be the largest wooden-hulled, full-rigged ship in Canada. The 1870 Victorian house contains furnishings and memorabilia of the Lawrence family and has two formal Victorian parlors overlooking the shipyard. Photographs, exhibits and tours feature Lawrence's era of shipbuilding, including an exhibit depicting the community of Maitland, a scale model of the “great ship” and 23 period rooms.
