Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises depart from Brier Island, which is reached via Hwy. 217 and two car ferries from Digby Neck. The ferry connections must be timed to avoid a delay in crossing. Cruises into the Bay of Fundy offer sightings and behavioral observations of various species of whales, dolphins, porpoises and seabirds. All cruises are narrated by experienced naturalists. The partially enclosed MV Mega Nova carries 50 passengers, while the 12-passenger Zodiac Cetacean is open-air. Warm clothing is necessary. Zodiac cruises are not recommended for ages 0-5, expectant mothers or individuals with back problems.
Mega Nova fare $50; $42 (students with ID and senior citizens); $28 (ages 6-14); $22 (ages 0-5). Cetacean Adventure fare $62; $54 (students with ID and senior citizens); $46 (ages 6-14). Reservations are recommended.
Hours: Three- to 5-hour cruises aboard the MV Mega Nova depart daily at 9:30, 1:30 and 5:30, early June to mid-Oct. (weather permitting). Two- to 2.5-hour cruises aboard the Cetacean Adventure depart daily at 8, 10:30, 1, 3:30 and 6, late May to mid-Oct. Arrive 1 hour before scheduled tour. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
