Fort Edward National Historic Site

Fort Edward National Historic Site is off King St. at 67 Fort Edward St. The blockhouse and earthworks are all that remain of Fort Edward, built in 1750 by British Maj. Charles Lawrence. Many Acadian families were detained here after the 1755 deportation. Garrisoned by Imperial troops for more than a century, Fort Edward was an important base during the Seven Years' War, the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Canadian and American forces trained at the fort during World War I. A 1.2-kilometre (.7 mi.) trail surrounds the earthworks.
