AAA Editor Notes
Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is n. off SR 21 (Gibson St.) at 151 Charlotte St., near New York State Thruway (US 90) exits 43 and 44. The 1887 Queen Anne-style mansion served as the summer retreat of Frederick Ferris Thompson, founder of the First National Bank of the City of New York, and his wife Mary Clark Thompson, the daughter of a former New York governor. A variety of colors and textures accent the mansion's rustic facade. The interior reflects the Victorian-era penchant for mixing architectural styles, as seen in the English Tudor entry hall, medieval great hall, Colonial dining room, and Arts and Crafts trophy room.

Sonnenberg is a German word meaning “sunny hill.” The 50-acre estate overlooking Canandaigua Lake consists of more than a dozen elegant theme gardens with fountains, streams, ponds, statues and greenhouses.

Tram rides are available.

Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
