Whiteface Mountain Veterans' Memorial Highway, 3.5 mi. w. via SR 431, is a 5-mile macadam road leading to a parking area near the summit of Whiteface Mountain. The 4,867-foot summit is reached by a .2-mile hiking trail or by an unusual electric elevator set in the cone of the peak. Wear proper footwear and warm clothing. On a clear day the summit house affords a view across more than 100 miles, including the St. Lawrence River and lakes Champlain and Placid.

The Toll House Area, at the beginning of the memorial highway, consists of a 1934 alpine-style gatehouse; the Lake Stevens pond, a popular fishing spot named after 1932 bobsled Olympian Hubert Stevens; the Lake Stevens Tree Trail, which circles the pond and features 34 species of native trees; and a picnic area.

Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
