Contemporary Art Museum of Oaxaca

Contemporary Art Museum of Oaxaca (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca, or MACO) is at Calle M. Alcalá #202, 2 blks. n. of Plaza Principal. It occupies a turn-of-the-18th-century building also known as the House of Cortés (Casa de Cortés), so named for supposedly being a former residence of the conqueror (historians and chronology insist otherwise). Beautifully restored, it features both colonial and contemporary architectural elements. Changing exhibits feature the work of regional as well as international artists.
