AAA Editor Notes
Zaachila Ruins are in Zaachila, about 18 km (11 mi.) s.w. of Oaxaca past the village of Cuilapan; the site, on a hilltop near the church on the main plaza, is marked “Zona Arqueológica.” There is limited street parking in the vicinity of the plaza. The name means “place of the Zapoteca kings.” A large platform with two sets of stairs descends to the remains of tombs containing ornate carvings, very similar in detail to the zigzag facades that characterize the ruins at Uxmal on the Yucatán Peninsula.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
