Akron Art Museum, One S. High St. at jct. E. Market St., occupies a late 19th-century brick Italian Renaissance Revival structure—formerly the post office—and the 2007 John S. and James L. Knight Building, which integrates part of the historic building. The museum's permanent collection presents a distinctive look at regional, national and international art from 1850 to the present, with a strong focus on paintings, sculpture and photography. Artists represented include Chuck Close, Childe Hassam and Andy Warhol. Nearly a dozen changing exhibits are presented each year. The 1-acre Bud and Susie Rogers Garden is on the grounds. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Museum $10; $8 (ages 65+ and students with ID); free (ages 0-17 and Thurs.). Garden free.
Hours: Museum Wed.-Sun. 11-5 (also Thurs. 5-9). Garden Mon.-Fri. 9-6, Sat.-Sun. 10-5. Closed major holidays.
