Akron Art Museum, One S. High St. at jct. E. Market St., occupies a late 19th-century brick Italian Renaissance Revival structure—formerly the post office—and the 2007 John S. and James L. Knight Building, which features glass, aluminum and steel and integrates part of the historic building. The museum's permanent collection presents a distinctive look at regional, national and international art from 1850 to the present, with a special focus on contemporary paintings and photography. Artists represented include William Merritt Chase, Chuck Close, Childe Hassam and Andy Warhol. Changing exhibits are created from American and international collections.
