AAA Inspector Notes
Inspector Pick (Wedding facilities): I think the Grand Ballroom, with its marble floor, balcony and stained glass windows, is the perfect place to get married or have a wedding reception.
Ornate public areas decorated with changing art exhibits, including some by former resident James Thurber, are the draw at this restored 1897 hotel. Guest rooms range from the spacious to the small. The lobby is ornamented with gold filigree and columns topped by Corinthian capitals. The Grand Ballroom has stained-glass windows and a balcony that overlooks a large dance floor. All rooms provide the excellent comfort of the Westin Heavenly Bed. Smoke free premises. 188 units. 7 stories, interior corridors.

A historic hotel like this deserves an interior-decorator's serious attention... the old-school charm is entirely missing and hasn't been replaced with modern spiffiness... it seems trapped in the middle somewhere, which leaves an odd impression. The garishly-lit backdrop behind front desk is entirely out of character with the lobby and comes across as tacky. Truly tiny room!
Pros: More like a 3 star frankly - tiny room, worn carpet, mediocre decor throughout, and mediocre food. The charm has been nearly entirely eradicated from this historic hotel, which I found surprising. Folks were very nice, but facility doesn't deserve 4 stars
Cons: had to pay for internet; cost to park was 2x the price per day to rent my car - outrageous; decor was dim and worn: old hotel that has lost its charm but hadn't gained modern spiffiness... lost in the middle. Nice shower, but some mildew.

Pros: The lobby is beautiful and the bedding was clean and extremely comfortable.
Cons: The rooms were very small and not well decorated. I understand this hotel was built in 1897, so that probably explains the shoebox sized rooms. The manager mentioned a remodel that is scheduled for the rooms, but they are currently unimpressive.

Pros: The staff was very nice and the hotel was clean.
Cons: The hotel did not seemed booked at all but we were put on a floor that was being renovated and painted. The hotel was also not very secure.
