James H. McBride Arboretum is just s. of jct. SR 2 and Rye Beach Rd., on the campus of Firelands College of Bowling Green State University, at One University Dr. The arboretum encompasses nearly 50 acres. At the center is Parker Lake, which features an arched bridge. The lake is home to fish and aquatic plants and wildlife, including migrating birds. Tree species include bald cypresses, dogwoods, evergreens, maples, oaks, pines and spruces. There also are more than 52 varieties of crab apple trees. The Parker Lake Pathway is about a 10-minute walk and the Woodland Trail takes about 20 minutes.
Some of the walking trails are shaded from mature trees, but most of the trails are in open sunlight. Pets are not permitted.
