Perry's Cave & Gemstone Mining is .5 mi. s. of downtown at 979 Catawba Ave. The attraction offers 20-minute guided tours of a limestone cavern, which includes an underground lake. The cave was a source of drinking water for Commodore Perry's fleet during the War of 1812. The cave is a constant 50 degrees F. A miniature golf course, a wooden maze challenge and a rock climbing wall also are on the grounds. There also is a butterfly house with 800 butterflies representing up to 40 species from Costa Rica and Malaysia.
Warm clothing is recommended. The stairs leading into the cave are steep and narrow; wear good walking shoes. Night tours are available with advance reservations (minimum of four people).
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
