Wahkeena Nature Preserve is w. on CR 86, following signs to 2200 Pump Station Rd. Trees, wildflowers, rhododendrons, mountain laurels, ferns and eight varieties of native orchids inhabit the nature preserve. Some 100 species of birds and 15 species of mammals inhabit the area; among the most common are pileated woodpeckers and white-tailed deer. A museum featuring exhibits about the natural history of the area and the story of Carmen Warner (founder of Wahkeena) along with nature trails are on the grounds.
