The Piatt Castles are 1 and 2 mi. e. on SR 245. Self-guiding tours let visitors explore the 1871 limestone Mac-A-Cheek Castle and acquaint them with the lives of several generations of former occupants. Mac-O-Chee Castle was begun in the 1860s as a modest Gothic retreat and was remodeled in 1881 with a Flemish-inspired limestone addition. It contains mostly American furnishings with a few European pieces. Mac-O-Chee was the home of Donn Piatt, a well-known publisher and author, and his wife, Ella, an artist. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
(per castle) $15; $13 (ages 65+); $9 (ages 5-15). Combination ticket for both castles $25; $20 (ages 65+); $15 (ages 5-15).
Hours: Both castles open daily 11-5, Memorial Day-Labor Day; Sat.-Sun. 11-4, mid-Apr. through day before Memorial Day and day after Labor Day-Nov. 1. Last tour begins at closing. Closed Christmas.
