AAA Editor Notes
The Piatt Castles are 1 and 2 mi. e. on SR 245. Self-guiding tours let visitors explore the 1871 limestone Mac-A-Cheek Castle and acquaint them with the lives of several generations of former occupants. Mac-O-Chee Castle was begun in the 1860s as a modest Gothic retreat and was remodeled in 1881 with a Flemish-inspired limestone addition. It contains mostly American furnishings with a few European pieces. Mac-O-Chee was the home of Donn Piatt, a well-known publisher and author, and his wife, Ella, an artist.
