Melvin B. Tolson Black Heritage Center is on the first floor of Sanford Hall on the campus of Langston University, .6 mi. w. off Sammy Davis Jr. Dr. Named in honor of award-winning poet Melvin B. Tolson, an English and drama professor at the historically black institution 1947-65, the center is a repository of materials relating to the black experience, including books, videos and periodicals in addition to collections of African and African-American arts and crafts. In addition to his academic achievements, Tolson also served four terms as mayor of Langston and as poet laureate of Liberia. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
