Travertine Nature Center is 2 mi. from the Chickasaw National Recreation Area headquarters at jct. US 177 and Broadway Rd. Straddling Travertine Creek, the interpretive center exhibits live animals and reptiles native to the surrounding woods, plains and streams. Rangers sometimes carry a live snake for visitors to handle; slides, movies and demonstrations provide further insight into man's relationship with nature.

Hours: Nature center daily 9-5:30, Memorial Day-Labor Day; 9-4:30, rest of year. Ranger programs and nature walks Fri.-Sun. at 9 a.m., 2, and 9 p.m., Memorial Day-Labor Day; Sat.-Sun. at 3, rest of year. Phone ahead to confirm ranger program schedule. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
