AAA Editor Notes

Quetico Provincial Park, 44 km (27 mi.) e., is a wilderness of interconnected waterways forming part of the boundary with the United States. Quetico and its U.S. counterparts, the adjoining Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area and nearby Voyageurs National Park, preserve much of the historic trade route from Lake Superior to Lake of the Woods. Quetico's share of this vast network of lakes and rivers encompasses 475,782 hectares (1,175,683 acres), within which are more than 1,500 kilometres (930 mi.) of canoe routes. A highlight is a large concentration of Indian pictographs. An information pavilion off Hwy. 11 at French Lake has large-scale maps and exhibits about the park's history, flora and fauna.
