Ruthven Park, 243 CR 54, is a 19th-century Greek Revival mansion overlooking the Grand River. An ongoing preservation project, including active conservation and archeological research, allows visitors to see how life changed for the five generations of the Thompson family who lived here 1845-1993. Nature trails and forests offer opportunities for hiking and bird-watching on the estate's 607 hectares (1,500 acres). Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Grounds by donation. Mansion $10; $8 (ages 65+); $4 (students with ID); $3 (ages 6-12); $20 (family).
Hours: Grounds open daily 9-5. Mansion tours are given Wed.-Sun. and holiday Mondays on the hour 10-4, Victoria Day weekend-second Mon. in Oct.; Sat.-Sun. noon-4, Nov.-Dec. Tours also are offered during special events; phone for details. Last tour begins at closing. Phone ahead to confirm schedule and admission prices.
