Cobalt Mining Museum, 24 Silver St., traces the area's silver mining history. The prospector's Hall of Fame depicts an early prospector's camp, and a native silver display is said to be one of the world's finest. Tunnels carved out by early miners can be seen on an underground mine tour. The Heritage Silver Trail, a 6-kilometre (4-mi.) self-guiding driving tour, provides insights into early 20th-century mining sites; a 2-hour guided trail tour also is available.
Museum $5; $4 (ages 65+); $3.50 (students with ID); $15 (family). Underground mine tour $10.
Hours: Museum daily 9-5, July-Aug.; Mon.-Fri. 1-4, rest of year. Underground mine tour departs daily on the hour 9-11 and 1-4, July-Aug.; otherwise by appointment.
