Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site, 235 John St. N., was Dr. Norman Bethune's 1890 birthplace. The ground floor and master bedroom of the late Victorian clapboard house have been restored to circa 1890. A visitor center offers exhibits, artifacts and interactive displays about the doctor and his innovations in battlefront surgical procedures and public health care. Special events are scheduled throughout the year, and 2-hour guided tours are available by appointment. Guided tours are available.
Free in 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. Otherwise $3.71; $3.24 (ages 65+); $1.81 (ages 6-16); $9.33 (family, up to seven with maximum two adults). Enhanced tours $7.43; $6.95 (ages 65+); $5.52 (ages 6-16).
Hours: Daily 10-4, July 1-Oct. 15; Wed.-Sun. 10-4, in June and Oct. 16-31. Allow 1 hour minimum.
