Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site, 235 John St. N., was Dr. Norman Bethune's 1890 birthplace. The ground floor and master bedroom of the late Victorian clapboard house have been restored to circa 1890. On the second floor is an exhibit that describes Bethune's life and accomplishments. A visitor center offers an audiovisual presentation and interactive displays about the doctor and his innovations in battlefront surgical procedures and public health care. Special events are scheduled throughout the year and 1-hour guided tours are available by appointment. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$3.90; $3.40 (ages 65+); $1.90 (ages 6-16); $9.80 (family, maximum two adults).
Hours: Daily 10-4, July 1-Oct. 15; Wed.-Sun. 10-4, in June and Oct. 16-31. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Closed major holidays. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
