Kingston Mills Lock Station is 1 km (.6 mi.) n. of Hwy. 401 exit 623; go n. on Hwy. 15, then 2 km (1.2 mi.) w. on Kingston Mills Rd. (CR 21), following signs. Kingston's locks are the southernmost of 47 locks that make up the 202-kilometre (126-mi.) Rideau Canal between Ottawa and Kingston. This station has four adjoining locks that raise or lower boats 14 metres (45 ft.). The Rideau Canal was built 1826-32 as a strategic military alternative to the supply route along the international section of the St. Lawrence River.

One of four blockhouses erected to protect the canal is furnished as it was in 1838 when occupied by the local militia. The lockmaster's house is the visitor center.

Picnicking at canal lockstations is permitted.
