Waterloo Region Museum, 3 km (1.8 mi.) n.w. of Hwy. 401 exit 275 on Huron Rd., features exhibit galleries as well as a living history village called Doon Heritage Village. The museum and village are set in 24 hectares (60 acres) of forest, marsh and farmland. The 1914 village contains more than 25 buildings, period furnishings, farm animals, heritage gardens and demonstrations of daily chores that re-create a time of dramatic change in Canada.
The butcher shop, train station, weavery, post office, church and general store, along with harness, print, blacksmith and tailor shops, offer depictions of early 20th-century life. Special events include a Canada Day Celebration on July 1.
