McMichael Canadian Art Collection, at 10365 Islington Ave. n. of Major Mackenzie Dr. on the east side, showcases 20th-century Canadian art including works by Canada's celebrated landscape artists known as the Group of Seven, and collections of First Nation, Inuit and contemporary Canadian works. Also available are outdoor sculpture, nature trails and the historic cemetery where six of the Group of Seven members were laid to rest.
The sprawling complex of galleries is situated on a 40-hectare (100-acre) tract of woodlands and meadows that provides a panorama of the Humber River Valley. The setting gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy Canadian landscape paintings in the woodland setting that inspired them. Special events include films, lectures and afternoon concerts every second Sunday. Guided tours that last approximately 45 minutes are included in the admission price.
