Benares Historic House Museum, 1507 Clarkson Rd. N. just s. of S. Sheridan Way, is a stately 1857 Georgian-style house restored to the 1918 era situated on 0.8 hectares (2 acres) of picturesque grounds. Guided 45-minute tours give details about the more than 2,000 original artifacts and furnishings along with the background of the four generations of the Harris family who lived there. Other historic buildings on the site include an early 19th-century cottage, a mid-1800s log cabin and outbuildings. A visitors center and interpretive gallery also are available. Special events are held throughout the year.
Combination ticket with Bradley House Museum $6; $5.40 (students with ID); $4.80 (ages 4-12); $16.95 (family, five members).
Hours: Wed.-Sun. noon-4 (also Thurs. 4-8). Last tour leaves 1 hour before closing. Closed major holidays. Allow 1 hour minimum.
