AAA Editor Notes

Journey Behind the Falls, 1.6 km (1 mi.) s. of Rainbow Bridge on the Niagara Pkwy. at Table Rock Point, contains elevators that descend to the base of the Horseshoe Falls. Three tunnels lead from the elevators and provide excellent vantage points for close-up views of the thundering falls and the Niagara River. The observation plaza is about 38 metres (125 ft.) below the gorge embankment and 8 metres (26 ft.) above the river's edge. Disposable raincoats are provided. Saturdays and Sundays in July and August a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer in ceremonial uniform is posted near the brink of the falls to pose with visitors for photographs.
Tunnel $16.75; $10.95 (ages 6-12), mid-Apr. to mid-Dec.; $11.25; $7.30 (ages 6-12), rest of year, when the lower observation deck is closed due to ice.
Hours: Complex opens daily at 9; closing times vary. Tunnels close 30 minutes before complex closing; phone ahead for closing times. Closed Christmas.
