Queenston Heights Park, s. on the Niagara Pkwy. near jct. Hwy. 405 and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge, commemorates a crucial battle of the War of 1812. A small force of British regulars, militia and First Nations under Gen. Sir Isaac Brock turned back a larger American invasion force in a stunning victory.
Views of the surrounding countryside can be seen from the top of the Niagara Escarpment, a U.N.E.S.C.O. World Biosphere Reserve, which dominates the park. Queenston Heights is the eastern terminus of the 720-kilometre (447-mi.) Bruce Trail, which follows the escarpment to Tobermory. The Niagara River Recreational Trail also passes through the park.
