The Laura Secord Homestead, 29 Queenston St., is the former home of Laura Secord, a militia sergeant's wife recognized as a heroine by the Canadian government for her bravery during the War of 1812. Secord undertook a perilous 31-kilometre (20-mi.) journey on foot to alert the British of an impending U.S. invasion. Because of her warning, the Americans were defeated at the Battle of Beaverdams 2 days later. The two-story frame cottage has been restored and furnished in period.
