Edwards Gardens and the Toronto Botanical Garden, 3.5 km (2.2 mi.) s. of Hwy. 401 exit 373 at Lawrence Ave. E. and Leslie St., has 17 themed gardens, including rock gardens, floral displays, a greenhouse and a flower-bordered path along the Don River on its 14 hectares (35 acres). The Toronto Botanical Gardens provide horticultural information, contemporary gardens and interactive opportunities as well as housing a research library. Special events are held throughout the year, including an organic farmers market on Thursday afternoons. Bicycles and dogs are not permitted. Food is available May through October. Guided tours are available.
Hours: Gardens daily dawn to dusk. Building open Mon.-Fri. 9-5, Sat.-Sun. 10-5. Ninety-minute guided tours are given Tues. at 10 and Thurs. at 6, May-Sept.; phone ahead to confirm availability. Tours leave from the Toronto Botanical Gardens at 777 Lawrence Ave. E. Information center open Mon.-Fri. 9-4, Sat.-Sun. noon-4. Closed statutory holidays.
