Toronto Zoo is 1.6 km (1 mi.) n. of Hwy. 401 off Meadowvale Rd. The zoo's 287 hectares (710 acres) contain more than 5,000 animals representing more than 450 species in natural habitat displays. Exhibit areas include seven themed geographic regions—Indo-Malaya; Africa, featuring the Gorilla Rainforest; the Americas; Australasia, featuring the Great Barrier Reef; African Savanna; Eurasia Wilds; and the Canadian Domain. The Xie Shou Giant Panda Experience houses four giant pandas, two adults and Canada’s first Giant Panda cubs. The zoo’s breeding program has also produced a male Indian rhino calf, male white lion cubs, a female polar bear cub and Canadian lynx kittens.
