Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is about 24 mi. s. on SR 205, then 6 mi. e. on Sodhouse Ln. The 187,000-acre refuge contains marsh, ponds, lakes, meadows and uplands desert; 320 bird and 58 mammal species have been recorded. Malheur Lake, a nesting and feeding stop along the Pacific flyway, is at the northern boundary. Wildlife is visible along a 42-mile auto tour route beginning south of the refuge headquarters. A museum contains wildlife exhibits and more than 200 mounted specimens.
