Deschutes Historical Museum is at 129 N.W. Idaho Ave. A three-story, 1914 stone schoolhouse contains exhibits pertaining to the prehistory and history of Deschutes County, including homesteading, logging and U.S. Forest Service history. Photographs, a 1907 Holsman motor-buggy and a re-creation of an early 20th-century classroom are included. A research library is on the premises. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
$5; $2 (ages 13-17).
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10-4:30. Guided walking tours are given in summer (weather permitting). Reservations are required for tours; phone for schedule. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
