AAA Editor Notes
Wizard Island is in Crater Lake within Crater Lake National Park. Access is obtained from Volcano Boat Cruises. The island is a cinder cone rising 760 feet above the lake's surface. According to legend, the spirit Llao was thrown into the lake by an enemy spirit; monsters devoured all except the head, leaving it to form the island. Fishing is permitted, and a 1-mile trail leads from the shore to the cone's crater. The hike is strenuous, and there are no services on the island. Ages 0-2 are not permitted.

Admission
Wizard Island drop-off fare $57; $36 (ages 3-12). Wizard Island shuttle $32; $20 (ages 3-12). Phone ahead to verify fares. Guests must also pay the park admission of $15 (per private vehicle for a 7-day pass); $10 (per person arriving on foot or by bicycle or motorcycle).
Hours
The drop-off boat tours usually depart daily at 9:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis and by reservation, late June to mid-Sept. (weather permitting). A shuttle to Wizard Island (no lake tour provided) is offered at 8:30 and 11:30. A boat arrives later in the day to pick up guests; length of time on island varies, so phone to confirm.
